Jews Have to Tithe

I’ve talked about tithing before, but I ran across a Jewish perspective (scroll down to the second-to-last block of blue text that has as a heading “Subject: Tithing …”) that declares “tithing” as a Jewish command only, asserting that the NT does not teach tithing at all – only giving, and consequently it doesn’t make sense for Christians to teach tithing as a command from Scripture.

I agree.

Despite this, however, I feel compelled to give 10% of my earnings. I don’t think this is a proper feeling, but one that, because of my training, is a part of my moral makeup.

I don’t think it’s a bad idea to give 10% of your money to God. But if we do it because we think we have to, that’s not what God wants.
