Independence

One of the things that makes school so great is the independence it affords a person. Sure there are deadlines and – at least in my case – substantially more than 40 hours of work every week, but still you are free to form your own schedule for the most part. There are those little things called classes that require your rigid attendance, but you can pretty much come in to work when you want, leave when you want, goof off when you want … it’s all up to you.

I talked to a fellow graduate student who told me he gets up in the afternoon and stays doesn’t go to bed until 4 a.m. Now that’s flexibility!
