I’m trying to transition from teaching to research. I really enjoyed teaching, I could see myself doing that for a living. I didn’t enjoy trying to assign grades, though. Too much freedom! It’s the type of situation that I find difficult, trying to decide what the best thing to do in a situation in which I hold the power to make someone’s summer or ruin it.

Research so far is anything but glamorous, just reading things and trying to get an idea of what’s going on. What is going on?

Basically, the research Dr. Slavkovic is involved in (and I’m trying out) looks at how much information government (and other) agencies can release so as not to breach confidentiality. The thing is, you want to release enough data to the public so that credible statistics can be done on the data (so potentially policy and funding decisions can be made) but not too much so that an individual person can be identified and private information compromised.
